Perched on a dramatic Colorado mountainside, this project reimagines an existing home through a contemporary addition that seamlessly blends modern design with rugged natural surroundings. The clients sought to expand their living space while preserving the spirit of the original structure and embracing the panoramic views of the valley below.
Our design introduces a bold yet refined addition that frames the landscape as a central feature of daily life. Expansive floor-to-ceiling glass captures shifting mountain light and creates a continuous dialogue between indoors and out, while a restrained palette of natural wood, stone, and steel grounds the home in its alpine setting.
The addition provides much-needed functional space for the family, including additional sleeping quarters to host extended family and guests, as well as a light-filled home office oriented toward the views. Carefully considered rooflines echo the slope of the terrain, ensuring the home feels anchored rather than imposed. Exterior terraces extend living outdoors, inviting year-round connection to the mountainside. The result is a residence that honors its original character while introducing modern clarity and functionality. This addition transforms the home into a dynamic composition of old and new — a place where contemporary living and timeless natural beauty coexist.
