Student Commons Building, University of Colorado Denver

This renovation project within the Student Commons Building at the University of Colorado Denver reimagines existing space to better serve and represent the student community. The work brought new homes to two student-oriented groups: the Center for Identity and Inclusion, and the Office of the Dean of Students.

The design reconfigured underutilized areas to create welcoming, functional environments that support student services, advocacy, and engagement. For the Center for Identity and Inclusion, the focus was on creating an environment that celebrates diversity and belonging. Flexible gathering spaces, private offices, and lounge areas were designed to foster connection, while integrated identity graphics reflect the voices and experiences of the campus community.

The Dean of Students’ offices were similarly planned with accessibility and visibility in mind. Clear circulation, open reception areas, and strategically placed meeting rooms make student support more approachable and transparent. The overall design balances professional functionality with a sense of warmth, ensuring the space feels both supportive and student-centered.

Through thoughtful reconfiguration and the infusion of visual identity, the renovation strengthens the Commons as a hub for student life. These new spaces affirm the university’s commitment to inclusion, advocacy, and student success.
